he came home with a dog, but we're not keeping it.

well, brian came home with a dog last night. some one at his work was going to put it on the street, and he just couldn't bear it. he's a very cute little mini yorkie. and he is house trained (except for last night at 3 am.) the owners before us named him whiskey, but we let the kids pick out a new one, so they call him charky (if any of you have seen curious george, you know that charky is the name of george's little dog friend.). he really is a good dog- he hasn't barked or made hardly any noise since he got here. but he did keep us up all night. of course with my pregnancy, i get up 3-4 times a night to use the restroom. so every time i got up, he woke up and then we had to listen to him lick and scratch until we all went back to sleep. the kids really love him, especially makenzie. she adores him. charky, however, prefers brian and i. he'll sit there at our feet and follow us around.

i am so tired this morning, however, i just started crying. everyone wants to keep the dog except me. i think i count the most. things are going to be hard the next few months, with out having to worry about a dog, and if i'll get any sleep! i really feel guilty when i see how the kids are playing with him all morning, and they just really love him. he's a great dog, so i need some reassurance that it is ok to take this away from the kids!! he called, and said the lady that gave it to us had other people that wanted him, so she'd just give him to someone else. oh, the guilt of motherhood.

You bear the majority of the burden of the home (though I know Brian is a wonderful helper). You have to get through the next few months sanely (though I'm realizing it's next to impossible) without an added burden. A little dog is an extra needy one. You can always get a dog after you adjust to the new baby! We've had a dog twice and gotten rid of them both because it was too much for me during pregnancy!

its fine....get rid of the dog. you're going to have 4 kids and a husband to clean up after (not to mention pay for).... you don't need to feel guilty!! when the kids are old enough to completely 100% take care of dog, then you can talk...for now, if the are really upset- go get a fish.
