compliments
i received a wonderful compliment from my 41/2 year old daughter the other day. we were in the car, and i had noticed that audrey put some gloss on her lips... i commented on it. "so you put some lip gloss on today, huh?" she said, "yes. do you know why i put it on?" "no" i replied. "because i want to be just like you. i want to be your twin!" sometimes we just don't realize how much our little ones look up to us!!

more hair cutting
well, i thought that we had learned our lesson about the scissors. even though it wasn't a real kid this time, it was extremely devastating to audrey. i had a coupon, and audrey chose this pink my little pony. she loved it, but the hair kept getting in the pony's face. i don't know where i was, but she decided to cut his little hair off, and then realized that she had butchered it. this is after i trimmed it up for her...
she cried and cried over this! "i ruined it! now it's ugly! i don't want it anymore! i want a new one...etc." i tried to reassure her that it was ok (while trying really hard not to laugh!) but, i told her, i only had one coupon, and she wasn't going to get another one, that she would just have to use this one.
this picture shows the devastation of a ruined pony. i felt a little bad for taking a picture of her in her misery, but it was just too good to pass up...
she finally calmed down, after i told her she just now had a "rocker chic pony" instead of a regular one. but several times that day brian asked, "now what lesson did we learn today?" and she would answer, "don't cut your pony's hair!"
on another note, in case any of you were wondering, potty training week was a failure. i decided that he was not ready yet, (almost!) but put him back in diapers and will try back in a couple of months.

haircuts and ballet
last night before bathtime i was trying to get the little rubberbands out of audrey's hair. i used the little black ones, which often pull on her hair as i try to get them out, so i went and got a pair of scissors to cut them out. i left them on the sink as i dried and dressed the kiddos, then i went back to the bathroom to get their toothbrushes. i saw hair on the floor and immediately went to audrey, "did you cut your hair?" no, she said. "then where did all this hair come from?"
zach was proud to take credit for cutting his hair. he was actually quite excited about it.
so i had to fix it this morning. sad, but at least i won't have to cut his hair again for a while...
in other family news, audrey started ballet/tap class!! she was so excited, and struck this pose with out me helping her! (and before learning anything at class!) when asked if she liked it, she really did, then asked what they did, she said "pries (plies!), hundreds and hundreds of plies."

happy labor day!
well this is what we're starting today!! my first potty training of a little boy. i'm a little nervous, but we'll see how it goes! he got excited to pick out his new underwear on friday, and we've been talking about it for a few days now. he has coined the phrase, "underwear boy". he did go on our first try this morning, and it's about time to try again!! there's no fun like potty training! and for those of you who have done it before, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

happy bday baby!
well, yesterday was brian's birthday. we had a good day; it started out with the kids and i going to lewisville for my nephew ian's birthday party. (this was the first year since we have been married that brian has not had the flexible schedule that he could take off work for his birthday!) then we headed back to have lunch with brian- we ate at chapps. that night, we were all still pretty full from lunch, so i didn't make a real dinner- we had grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches! we spent the night playing together and spending real quality family time. here are the kids with candy in their mouths from one of the games they played with daddy.
audrey really wanted to take a few pictures, so we gave her the camera, and she took a few good ones! i love him so much!
me and kenzie jane. audrey took this one too.
we made a little cake for daddy and sang happy birthday to him. it was so sweet for him to say this is the way he would want to spend his birthday. with his family! and no tv or movies!
here's the way kenzie entertains us now- she puts her hands on the side of her face and laughs, so we all do it back. it is fun!

zach's third birthday
saturday was zach's 3rd bday! he had a great day, so i thought i'd share a few pictures...
we ate lunch at red robin with the entire family.... all his cousins, most aunts and uncles, and even grandpa and granny came. here i said lets take a picture, and he put his cheek up against mine- just the sweetest! there is just something different that i share with my son that i don't have with my girls. we have a special bond- i love it!
the typical cousin picture
i really wanted to get him a cake from my college friend kara (check out her awesome cakes!), but we had to save where we could, and the cake was one that i had to do myself. i got the idea off the internet, and it came out ok; it was my first time to do anything like this. it was also the first time i've made a cake for a birthday ( i also had to make it because of the whole allergy thing...) in case you can't tell, it is rocket from little einsteins...
my little sister karis works at the ymca so she got us a great deal on their swimming pool. funny thing was, after weeks and weeks of 100+ degree weather, the one day we decide to have a swimming party, its like 80 degrees.
makenzie enjoying her capri sun!
cousin aubren! brian told zach to go clean off in the pool....
most of the kiddos that made it to the party. look at zach, second on the left- he's freezing!
uncle andy with ian and logan, audrey with brian and zach
